Retro beat ’em up Toxic Crusaders is still on the way from Retroware, and the developer has released a whole bunch of new info.
Have mop, will throw down
If you’re anything like us, then you’re pretty excited for Retroware’s retro/action take on Toxic Crusaders. The game is spun off of the 90s cartoon instead of the movie, and features classic gameplay from the golden age of the genre.
While the game received plenty of excitement from fans when it was announced, and even got a Steam demo, further updates never materialized and it’s all but vanished since. That’s to say, it has until last week, when Retroware revved up the hype machine in a big way with a deluge of new info that included reveals of more playable characters, story details, and a tilt to include both themes and elements from the popular Playmates Toys action figure line, and also creator Troma Films’ entire movie catalog.
Yeah, that’s a lot, and the result is an over six minute video that fans are gonna want to check out.
Yep, we’re still pumped to play this one. Maybe just a tad more so at this point. As mentioned too, Toxic Crusaders has a newly marked release window, with Retroware now targeting a quarter two of 2025 launch. While that’s not right around the corner, it’s also not that far off either.
For those who prefer physical games too, it’s actually a good thing, since the digital edition will now be landing along with a physical one, thanks to a deal with Limited Run Games. Keep an eye out too, as the developer adds that it’ll be much more active with updates up to launch. So basically, expect to see much more about Toxic Crusaders sooner than later.
