If you were sleeping on pop culture statue-maker PCS, now’s the time to correct that and check out some truly awesome pieces.
Monster
There’s a reason why we mentioned sleeping on PCS, or Premium Collectibles Studio, and it’s because we’ve been doing just that. A mainstay at cons around the country, PCS has been in existence for a while, and yet we’ve never really engaged with them in any way. Well, thanks to Optimus Prime at this past NYCC, we’re finally on the bandwagon.
Yes, Optimus Prime, because the Autobot leader was the central piece in what was an overall stunner of a booth on the show floor. PCS came prepared to make an impact, with absolutely huge statues of Prime, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blade, Darth Maul, and tons more. Not only did it catch our attention as we made our way across the con, but it made for maybe the best booth of the show. This stuff was that cool.
Transformers
Not that Transformers were the only things at PCS‘ NYCC booth here in 2024, but they might’ve been the biggest highlight. Literally. Those Turtles were stunning too, but we’ll get to them, for now we’re happy to walk you through a look at Prime and a host of other Cybertronian pieces.
Speaking of…
Optimus Prime is a monster. Clocking in at over 28″ tall for the Deluxe Edition and 34″ for the Jet Convoy Edition, Prime seems certain to make a visual statement wherever you place him. The twin editions see him with an updated, but still very G1 looking design, complete with piles of detailing and even some accessories.
Swappable parts include an energy sword and axe, as well as a Megatron arm that comes complete with the Decepticon’s signature fusion cannon. If you’re reading the current Transformers comic series from Skybound, you know the story there, as it’s ripped right from that title’s pages.
As you can see though, that’s not all, as Optimus Prime – Jet Convoy Edition also comes packing a set of massive wings, seemingly transformed from Prime’s trailer. Both editions are impressive, and so are the prices, as the Deluxe Edition is tagged at $2374 USD, and the Jet Convoy Edition is $4274 USD.
Along with Prime were a pair of ‘animated’ Transformers statues, much smaller in scale and with a cel-shaded look. Grimlock and Soundwave were both pretty impressive in their own rights though, and the Decepticon mainstay even comes with swappable parts. Then there was the wall hanging.
One of the most unique pieces that we’ve ever seen and the centerpiece of the booth’s back wall, was a diorama that can apparently hang on a wall. Actually an assemblage of smaller releases, this Transformers: The Movie piece displays multiple individual scenes from the landmark 1986 animated film.
It definitely makes a visual impact, and we can’t wait to hear more about it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Second only to the Transformers stuff on display, were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The venerable property had incredible statues on display at PCS‘ booth, including a quintet of highly-detailed, 1:3 scale pieces. Those included the four brothers, plus one of the coolest looking takes on Shredder that we’ve seen yet.
Each statue stands at over 20″ tall and there are variant editions as well. Those make some slight alterations to the base piece, with an example being Raphael getting a bandana that covers his full-head instead of just his eyes. The only exception seems to be Shredder, who has a trio of versions available.
With almost all ready for pre-order now, Leonardo is priced at $1350 USD, Donatello and Raphael are at $1200 USD, and Michelangelo is… actually we’re not sure. Mikey is the odd-Turtle out, and doesn’t appear to be up yet on PCS’ site, so his pricing is still a mystery. Shredder however, is posted and caps off the series with a $1300 USD price point for the base, and $1350 each for the PCS Deluxe and Platinum edition’s. Just a note here too, as the Platinum is apparently already sold out.
Aside from the above, and priced significantly lower, is the TMNT Origins diorama. A life-size 1:1 diorama, Origins brings all four Turtles together in their pre-mutant state, complete with ooze canister and puddle of glowing green mutagen. And when we say “glowing”, we mean it, as this one actually lights up via LED.
The TMNT Origins Deluxe Edition is priced in at $399 USD. As with the above, pre-orders are available now.
And all the rest
It wasn’t all Cybertronians and Ninja Turtles at PCS NYCC stand. Nope, along with those premier properties was a selection of additional pieces, some of which were just as impressive. Actually, depending on your fandom, some of the tertiary stuff might’ve been even more impressive.
Marvel Comics’ Blade and Wolverine were both present, plus some rarely seen Killer Instinct collectibles, and a host of horror properties. Those include Halloween, as you can see in the header image, Scream, and The Crow (the ’90s original, thankfully).
