Genesis: New Player Resource

Welcome, players of Genesis: Battle of Champions! Whether you’re a veteran player looking for a refresher on the goings-on of the game, or a brand new Genesis Player looking for resources to get really into the game, this is the article to check on!

Genesis is in a bit of a weird spot: the game is slowly approaching almost a decade of existence, and yet it’s also poised to revitalize itself with a new set, new organized play, and much more in the coming months. As new resources are created, found and gathered, I’ll periodically update this article to reflect the changes.

First up, we have Socials! Whether you’re looking for content creators, LGS communities, or just want to tune in to see what Edge of Exile Entertainment is up to, there is an an ever-growing spread of content surrounding Genesis that you can consume!

Next up we have Collecting and Pricing! Genesis has had a handful of singles sellers over it’s lifetime and there aren’t any big names currently providing that kind of resource, so pricing is a bit tricky. Never fear though, as I’m here to help you out!

*Keep in mind that while there is currently no current, accurate, up-to-date pricing guide, there are a couple of Genesis Community members who are trying to put together a pricing database based on existing market prices.

eBay is your best bet though, for accuracy and current pricing. Things like the Beta 2-Player Starter set average $100-120 CAD, and Sealed Booster boxes of Beta going for around $200-250, with Welcome to Jaelara and Raze sealed boxes fetching closer to $150-200. J2, Origins KS and Invasion are all still roughly MSRP as well. Origins Retail is still a tricky one to find, even online; the box toppers aren’t that hard to find online (at least currently), so hunting down a Retail box is certainly worth it if you’re a Genesis fan and collector. Dragon World (which is outdated) used to sell singles, although they don’t carry any new stock, don’t carry Invasion, and their pricing is inconsistent. I only mention them as you will likely come across them if you’re searching for Genesis singles. I would definitely compare singles pricing on eBay to any LGS or singles seller to ensure you’re not only getting a fair deal, but to ensure consistency on pricing (which helps all of us!).

As for collecting itself, here’s a quick breakdown of the set sizes and what each has regarding collectability:

Alpha: 90 cards/1 version of each champion/Rares/Original Card Style
Beta: 90 cards/1 version of each champion/Rares/Revised Card Style
Welcome to Jaelara: 135 cards /4 versions of each champion/ Full Art Wordless Epics
Raze: 109 cards /4 versions of each champion/Full Art Epics
J2: 153 cards/ 2 versions of each champion/Full Art Epics/All Rarity Foils
Origins RT: 157 cards (same as KS), 2 versions of each champion/Full Art Wordless Boxtoppers/All Rarity Foils/2 Secret chase cards
Origins KS: 157 cards (same as RT), 2 versions of each champion/Promos, Signed Cards, Test Prints and Foil Epics as Boxtoppers/All Rarity Foils/2 Secret chase cards
Invasion: 177 cards/1 version of each champion/New Card Style/New Card Back/Only Foil on Rares and Epics
