The Astronauts’ horror-themed role-playing FPS Witchfire is making moves today, with an Epic update and a Steam announcement.
And there was much Wailing
Familiar with Witchfire? A role-playing, first-person shooter that debuted on the Epic Game Store a little while back. The game casts (no pun intended) players as a sinner who’s become a witch-hunter out to purge the world of the Witch of the Black Sea and her evil minions.
Witchfire isn’t a straightforward FPS though, and actually plays more like a roguelike. Encounters across the game’s various biomes power up both your hero and his arsenal, and the game gives players one chance to return from death and reclaim everything that they’ve lost, should they fall prey to a foe.
The Astronauts have delivered one chunky update thus far, but have dropped a second as of today. That came in the form of the Wailing Tower. A new biome that adds in a little cosmic horror, the Wailing Tower brings the game “prophecies” and “curses”, and also a new play opportunity for players in the form of Preyers.
Those are particularly creepy, and allow “the most wicked individuals” to rise as undead assassins, working out of a base called the Hermitory.
The Wailing Tower patch brings elements of cosmic horror to Witchfire, and offers the first new raid map since the game’s release. Arcana power-ups now feature “prophecies” and “curses” to benefit and challenge players, respectively, while the souls of fallen preyers can be called upon to aid you in your quest against new foes. In addition to gear and gameplay updates, compelling music tracks from composers Marcin Przybyłowicz (The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077), P.T. Adamczyk (Gwent, Cyberpunk 2077) and Paweł Błaszczak (Dead Island, Call of Juarez, Dying Light) have been added to the game. Full patch notes can be found on The Astronauts’ website and Discord.
The Astronauts press release
Along with the above update, which again is out on the PC, for the Epic Game Store version of Witchfinder. But as we mentioned, there’s also some Steam news to talk about today. The game is indeed expanding out of Epic’s shop, and is heading to Steam, which will also be an Early Access release.
We don’t have a date yet for that drop, but The Astronauts says that Steam players can expect it some time this year.
