Darth Vader #50 includes a ‘what if’, with a turned, Dark Side Leia

Helping to bring the current Star Wars comic book line to an end, is a special ‘what if’ included with next month’s Darth Vader #50.

We all know what happened when Darth Vader offered his son a partnership in ruling the galaxy. Maybe the single most pivotal moment of the original trilogy, Luke Skywalker refused that suggestion, and went on to help put an end to the Empire. But what might’ve happened if Vader made the same offer to his daughter?

As we know, Luke’s sister Leia would end up no stranger to the force either, though she was wholly untrained in the days of the original trilogy. So what could have happened if Vader reached out to her, training her and guiding her towards his own vision? That’s the question that Marvel’s Darth Vader #50 will be posing in a backup story, when it arrives in September.

The comic is part of a one-two punch, that’ll end Marvel’s current Star Wars run next month. Not that the line will be going anywhere, as it’ll be relaunched in a new era, set between the original and sequel trilogies.

But again, before we get to that, there’s both Star Wars #50 and Darth Vader #50. And for the latter, Marvel will be adding in that interesting alternate-reality tale that we mentioned above.

Next month’s STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #50 will have a special backup story by series writer Greg Pak and frequent series artist Luke Ross that explores the possibility of Princess Leia joining the dark side! Fans can get a glimpse at the story now in an all-new variant cover by best-selling cover artist Derrick Chew. Also available as a virgin cover, Chew’s cover reveals a new armored look for Leia that will debut in the issue.

Marvel Comics press release

So that’s that for Marvel’s run of tales taking place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Fans can look for Darth Vader #50, complete with the above story and of course its main narrative as well. That sounds pretty neat too, and will bring the “conclusion to Vader’s tormented battle against the Emperor’s schemes and the Schism Imperial’s secret plot to topple the Empire” to fans on September 18th.

If that’s next month though, what’s October hold then? Well, that’d be Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising. The new book will be the first shot in what’s to be a collection of three limited series’, that will all combine to form the final, climactic battle of the Galactic Civil War era.
