SDCC ’24: Mad Cave teams with Dupuis and Joe Quesada to create “Amazing Comics” imprint,

Dubbed “the first true international comics imprint”, Amazing Comics reveals its first title with Disciple.

Classic team-up

Every comics fan should know the name Joe Quesada. An iconic artist and writer, Quesada has been at it for a long time, crafting not only individual books, but guiding a massive comics line as editor-in-chief (later chief creative officer) of Marvel Comics. But now Quesada is moving onto something totally new, and from the sound of it, that’s true in a few ways.

The new brand is Amazing Comics, and it’s a brainchild of Quesada’s that’s set to come to life thanks to a teaming of companies. Those, as you saw in the headline, are American publisher Mad Cave and European house Dupuis, both of whom will be joining forces to create a lineup that they call “the first true international comics imprint”.

So what does that mean? Well, more or less, Amazing Comics will be crafting titles specifically for the international market. From its home base in Idaho, the imprint will look to attract talent from a global pool, while Mad Cave and Dupuis will handle both publishing and distribution in the US and Europe.

Creating the Disciple

It all starts with Disciple #1, a title that will be penciled by Quesada and feature a tale from him and cowriter Charles Dorfman. The pair will be joined by inker Wade von Grawbadger, colorist Richard Isanove, and letterer Joe Caramagna, for a tale that sounds pretty darn interesting.

Disciple is a “reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that blends classic literature with modern storytelling”, and just debuted at SDCC with a special preview issue, Disciple: Quarto.

“The true origin of Disciple came about when I met Charles Dorfman, a talented writer with a passion for graphic storytelling. Charles pitched an adaptation of Hamlet, which sparked a creative journey that led to the unique version of Disciple we have today. This project blends Shakespearean elements with contemporary genres, creating a rich, mythological world for our readers to explore that begins as a prequel to the original, set in a whole new world.”

While we’ve gotten the big reveal here, of both Disciple and Amazing Comics, the retail debut seems still a little ways off. Basically, stay tuned, as Mad Cave and Dupuis promise that there’s “more information about this exciting project to be revealed in the coming months.”

In the meantime though, you might want to check out Amazing Comics’ website for a bit more info.
