Timeline Tuesday: Apocalypse Gamilla

A Genesis: BoC Decktech Series

Genesis deckbuilding can get a little math-y with balancing chi values, aura pools, and having no card limit, so I’m here to help breakdown some fun archetypes you can expand on or rip apart and completely remake with your own ideas!

We’re gonna take a card and build an entire deck around that card.
and today’s card is…..

Gamilla!

Yes, the Angelic Ghoul herself is finally making an appearance. Housing arguably one of most (if not THE most) powerful Champion abilities to come out of Invasion, Gamilla can (literally) extend the reach of her spells across the entire arena with little effort.

The first part of our Apocalypse: the Kaijus. You can’t have the end of the world without world-destroying beasts right? And there are some very clear choices to truly *abuse* this ability:

Ponerodon – This scaly puppy can *EXERT* any summon it damages. Imagine the damage a giant wave or a storm of electricity could cause…

Pretty Bird – This is where were start getting into the “Do I want my friends to hate me?” territory. Every time it damages your opponent’s champion, Pretty Bird will let you cast the top card of your opponent’s deck or send it to their subconscious where it ain’t ever coming back. Probably.

Celestial Hegemon – Surely your opponent doesn’t actually want to play Genesis right? Pacify them like a tired toddler and watch them flop.

A few others to consider:

Caustic Millipede – Want to give everything permanent decay? ’cause this guy will do it, don’t test him.

Picornavirus – Depending on how electric-based you want to go with the deck, Picornavirus is cheaper, weaker version of Firing Crog.

Firing Crog – Depending on how water-based you take the deck, this may be a decent force multiplier as it will be able to Water Brand everything it touches.

I would recommend starting with x4 Celestial Hegemon, x4 Ponderodon, x4 Pretty Bird and x2 Caustic Millipede. You can make room as needed to swap in anything you think might fit your playstyle better too!

At this point, it’s safe to say we mean business and we ain’t playin around. Our Kaiju force is something to be truly feared, and we’ve barely begun to build toward our true Apocalyptic potential.

Let’s add in some Dedicated Studies, because we’re in Blue and we need to draw cards like our lives depend on it; we can even throw in a copy or two of Epiphany to really accelerate things if there’s room. I also really really like Evasive as a 1-or-2-of in any Green deck, just for how useful it is to keep moving, and to react at swift speed too.

Now let’s look at some big spells that hit *everything* because we want our on-damage effects from our Kaiju army to be as efficient as possible. Don’t forget that we also want to have some energy-spending cards so we’re not limiting ourselves when we run out of aura (or in-tandem with our aura-costing cards).

I generally start with 2 copies of the big expensive spells and then massage the numbers depending on how much chi I still have left over and what I’m lacking.

You may have noticed that the cards we’re looking at so far are all really expensive for Chi, so let’s take a look at some of the 3 and 4 chi cards that would complement this deck.

Mind Reading let’s us keep an eye on our opponent’s game plan if they get too close to us, while our elemental Strike cards ensure we’re able to safely poke our opposing combatants with ease.

We also have some rather under-utilized cards that would be perfect for disrupting our opponents until the right time to unleash our Apocalypse: Alterations!

Chained Carver and Ruined Sculpture – These two work together to really disrupt your opponent’s plans. Quick Beckon the Chained Carver to create a Ruined Sculpture at essentially swift speed, and use the Ruined Sculpture to block Line of Sight. You can force your opponent into an awkward position or they lose cards to discard among other highly disruptive plays; the potential is really high to frustrate and confound any combatant around you.

Block – This is actually a way for us to utilize our summons and champ to heal one another, draw us a card and filter our deck as well. Think of it like a Dedicated Studies that prevents damage.

Infected Brush and Toxic Mushroom- Playing a similar function as the Ruined Sculpture, we can even add in Toxic Mushroom alongside the Caustic Millipede to combo with an area spell to get a Taru Stag-like effect (our opponent will have decay, won’t be able to deal any damage or gain any health while on the Infected Brush).

Let’s review our Apocalypse checklist:

Big Scary Beasts? Check.

Widespread Damage? Check.

Horrible Biological Growths? Double Check.

Depressed Dude Feeling Blue? Also Check.

Angelic Ghoul who leaps from the gallows and levitates down the stairs? Believe it or not, Check.

I think we’re ready to cause a very swift Apocalypse, so ask yourself:

Who’s afraid of little ol’ Gamilla? Not you?

Well you should be.

As always, make sure you tune in on Monday’s, now at 8PM EST for the Genesis: Battle of Champions live streams. You can also see the progress of their current Kickstarter, as well as check out the official Genesis Battle of Champions website for a full card library, up-to-date rules and a store locator so you can find out the nearest LGS carrying Genesis!
