If Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is anywhere near as good as it looks in this dev diary, it’s going to be a treat to play.
Reporting for duty
We’ve seen quite a bit of Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 at this point, and it seems as each glimpse just gets better. The followup to the 2011 original, Space Marine 2 once again puts players in the massive boots of the Ultramarine called Titus. This time demoted to the rank of Lieutenant, the former captain is played by actor Clive Standen, and will find himself once again in a universe of trouble. Fortunately, that’s pretty much exactly where a Space Marine would want to be.
Tutus will have plenty to deal with, as he and his squad defend several Imperial planets against a massive invasion force of Tyranids. The hideous xenos overrun seemingly every corner of the game’s world, and Saber looks to be upping the ante significantly for what fans can expect that to mean. Monster sized swarms are possible in this new game, tasking players with picking off as many as they can from a distance, and then wading in chainsword first when they close the gap.
The new developer diary for the title goes over all of that, while revealing a few new looks at the game in action.
From actor Clive Standen as Lieutenant Titus to the art, development, and QA units, today’s video tells the story of the team’s commitment to delivering a game truly worthy of its predecessor, fans’ expectations, and the immeasurable scale of war in the 41st Millenium. Be it the brutal efficiency of the Space Marines, the gigantic scale of the game’s environments, or the unique technology behind the Tyranid swarms – every aspect of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 represents the culmination of what Saber and Focus have strived toward for many years through numerous titles, according to Saber Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits.
