The Norse nine realms have their perils, and players will find themselves surrounded by them in Jötunnslayer Hordes of Hel.
Land of the ice and snow
Thanks to the recent resurgence in Norse themes in movies and games, most pop culture fans probably have a basic understanding of the culture’s fabled nine realms. And while Svartalfheim, Muspelheim, and Jotunheim might not be household names, most fans probably at least have a passing familiarity with them.
Continuing that roll this fall, will be Jötunnslayer Hordes of Hel, an action title from Grindstone and developer Games Farm. While it might look like an aRPG at first glance though, don’t be fooled. The game will be a purely action-oriented affair, centering on horde-mode survival, as players try and withstand wave after wave of mythological foes to gain blessings from the Norse gods.
Embark on a hazardous quest through the dark realms of Norse mythology in this gripping roguelike horde arena survival game, boasting cutting-edge graphics and an immersive story arc. Select a fallen soul condemned to suffer in Helheim and wield your blade against legions of foes in a relentless quest for redemption. In this desolate domain, divine blessings are scarce, earned only through the spilling of rivers of blood. Navigate through the hostile realms of the Norse underworld, invoking mighty bosses through ancient rituals only to sever their heads in pursuit of salvation.
Master your skills for the final exhilarating massacre of all enemies that stand before you!
Will you emerge as the chosen one, favoured by the Gods, and ascend to the legendary Halls of Valhalla?
Grindstone press release
While Jötunnslayer Hordes of Hel will have a horde mentality, it’ll still have some structure to its procedurally generated worlds. Players will battle against bosses to cap those off, and earn upgrades to build out their chosen hero. Speaking of that too, yes there will be multiple characters to pick from, each with a promised “unique set of skills, abilities, and weapons”.
There’s no specific release date just yet for Jötunnslayer Hordes of Hel however, so stay frosty. You can expect to see it make the trip across the rainbow bridge (into Early Access on the PC) some time this autumn.
