One of the bigger hits of the year, the latest Transformers movie has arrived somewhat unannounced on Paramount’s streaming platform.
Who let the Beasts out
As far as we know, this is a pretty big surprise, and comes less than two months after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hit theaters. For those who might want to check the action flick out though, or might want to see it again, its arrival on Paramount+ today is some good news.
Rise of the Beasts actually got some pretty decent press when it debuted in theaters on June 9th, and a solid fan reception too. The movie raked in a total of almost a half billion dollars globally, on the back of a story that introduced the Beast Wars factions to the Transformers movie universe.
While they didn’t quite look like their cartoon counterparts, that was something that 90s Transformers fans had been look for. The film also dipped into G1 continuity, bringing Scourge and his Sweeps (or some halfway-reasonable facsimiles) and Unicron to bear against Optimus’ Prime and Primal.
In the new movie, Optimus Prime and the Autobots take on their biggest challenge yet. When a new threat capable of destroying the entire planet emerges, they must team up with a powerful faction of Transformers known as the Maximals. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, two humans, Noah and Elena, will do whatever it takes to help them as they engage in the ultimate battle to save Earth.
Paramount+ press release
So why is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts out so soon after it’s theatrical run ended anyway? While we don’t know for sure, it feels like the continued nudging up of ‘home video’ launches, in general. There’s been a noticeable push for that since the dawn of the streaming era, and it’s accelerated quite a bit over the last year or so.
In a way it’s great, as it gives the maximum amount of people the chance to see whatever film it is that’s in question. But in a way, it also isn’t, as it does take away a bit of the fun and urgency of going to the movies.
But whatever the case, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is here right now if you’re a Paramount+ subscriber. So why not take a trip to Cybertron this evening?
