There’s a Nintendo Direct coming up tomorrow, and it’s got the rumor-milll churning. With a focus on 2023 launches, will it reveal a new Mario title?
Directly to you
So this is pretty typical for Nintendo, as goes the Direct series of presentations. We got one day notice on the show, and it was served up with little in the way of description.
All Nintendo shot out to the press was the following:
Tune in on June 21 at 7 a.m. PT for a Nintendo Direct livestream featuring roughly 40 minutes of information focused mainly on Nintendo Switch titles launching this year, including new details on Pikmin 4.
Nintendo press release
Now, granted that’s a chunky show. Forty minutes is a while, and it’s mostly going to be stocked with stuff coming this calendar year. Pretty cool as it is, right? And we’ve got confirmation that at least some of that is going to be spent on Pikmin 4, which is hotly anticipated, so that’s neat too.
But there’s a rumor-mill that’s popped up as well, and if you haven’t been trawling Twitter, it’s fairly exciting. The word is, and this is from what doesn’t seem like a singular source as a bunch of accounts are posting it, that Nintendo is set to reveal both a remake of an SNES game, and a completely new Super Mario title. On top of that, and hold onto your butts, the Mario game is going to be 2D.
Yeah, that’s awesome, but hang tight for now, because again there’s no actual proof of any of that. We normally don’t ever report on rumors, though it’s kind of tough in this instance, since this is hitting the right chords for us.
Just keep in mind that the scuttle might be wishful thinking and nothing more. Then again though… maybe it isn’t.
