If you like retro-flavored fantasy faire, then you should check out this new look at Hammerwatch II. The co-op adventure begins its quest this August.
Forsooth
Wow does this one bring back the memories… well, kind of. Not that any 16bit game we can think of off the top of our heads looked like Hammerwatch II, because this new title is looking drop dead gorgeous with some fantastic lighting and effects. But regardless of that, the classic era’s vibe is still quite strong with it.
Crafted to support 4 player action, Hammerwatch II looks like a beefed up SNES title. It’s set to offer players an action-filled quest as one of five different classes, across the fantastic realm of Hammer Island.
But as with any good RPG, you don’t have to solely focus on that mission. Players will be able to engage in a whole bunch of side-quests, and also craft their own weaponry and potions. It sounds like they’re going to need all the help they can get too, as Hammerwatch II will pit them against hordes of the undead, massive monsters, and the evil Blight the Horrible.
Journey through Hammer Island, the Fallowfields and the dark mountainous regions of Blackbarrow, all created in the signature Hammerwatch pixelated art style. Build a custom Herian Hero and choose between five distinct character classes: Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Wizard and Warlock before customizing a hero’s appearance and leveling up to unlock powerful new abilities and skills.
Modus Games press release
The PC edition of Hammerwatch II will be first to see launch, and it just might be the best. While there will be Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch versions some time after it hits, Hammerwatch II on the PC will offer “a fully moddable world”, allowing players to edit their own levels, “create new stories” and even craft their “own adventure.”
The full title will be along this August the 15th, though you can try your hand at Hammerwatch II much earlier than that. It’s part of Steam’s latest Next Fest, which is going on right now, and has a demo ready for download as you read this.
