SDCC 22: IDW announces a new beginning for Star Trek comics

Announced today at Comic Con, IDW’s Star Trek #1 just might be the strangest Trek comic ever. Ready to meet the just returned god-Sisko?

Definitely where no one has gone

Yes, you read that right. Before we get to the details though, it’s nice to see that IDW is still plowing ahead with Trek. The publisher has a brand new Trek book set to debut this fall, and as you’ve seen from the above, it’s a doozy.

Star Trek #1 is set to continue the “Next Generation” era of Trek, and re-introduce one Benjamin Sisko. Captain Sisko, if you remember, traveled into the wormhole to live with the Prophets of Bajor. And just what it is that went on there is the subject of this new tale. Well, what went on and what the fallout is. See, Ben’s a god now.

But of course, he’s also still a living human. And so the moment he steps out of the wormhole, that godhood starts fading. Fading powers or no, that’s also where Sisko’s new quest begins.

Sent by the Prophets themselves, this new mission involves pulling Trek characters from across the galaxy to help. Oh, and the deaths of gods across all of creation. Can’t forget that.

Its stardate 2378, and Benjamin Sisko has finally returned from the Bajoran Wormhole omnipotent. But his godhood is failing with every minute. Sent by the Prophets on a mission to the deepest parts of space aboard the U.S.S. Theseus, he witnesses the unthinkable: Someone is killing the gods. And only Sisko and his motley crew of Starfleet members from every era of Trek can stop them.
