Marvel Comics locks up Solomon Kane, Dark Agnes, “more”

With the addition of Conan, Marvel has opened up a whole new universe of action. And now they’re adding even more of Robert E. Howard’s creations.

Welcome to the Howardverse

Marvel is referring to their collection of Robert E. Howard licenses as the “Howardverse”, though this isn’t a single universe we’re talking about. Already back in the Marvel fold is Conan the Barbarian, and a good chunk of his allies and enemies.

When you think of Howard as a creative force, that’s usually who you associate him with. Now though, Marvel has added Howard’s Solomon Kane and Dark Agnes, which signals yet another little sub-verse in Marvel’s house.

Not that that’s it. There’s even more coming apparently, though the publisher isn’t saying what or who. They’re simply teasing that “True Believers should keep an eye out for the likes of Dark Agnes, Solomon Kane, and a few more surprises in upcoming Marvel books.”

“Our readers cannot get enough of Conan, and luckily, we have plenty more to give them,” said Editor Mark Basso. “We’re very excited for readers and the heroes of the Marvel Universe to meet or reunite with more characters from the legendary Robert E. Howard mythos!”

“With their world-building and storytelling expertise, we’re happy that Marvel now will go deeper into the Howardverse to explore more of all his fantastic characters, and spinning new, exiting yarns,” said Joakim Zetterberg, Executive Vice President at Conan Properties.

Marvel Comics press release

Stay tuned for more on these developments. Marvel says further info is coming up “at a later date”.
