If you want to get in on some of the adventure titles from Telltale, now’s your chance. GOG will be delisting all of them soon.
Lost to history
The collapse of Telltale Games was a stunner. Few realized all of the internal issues they were having, and the studio abruptly closed seemingly out of nowhere. To put it mildly, it was a surprise. It happened right in the middle of the last season of The Walking Dead too, which ruffled some feathers.
At this point we’ve seen the publication of that game in full, however the future for Telltale remains the same. That is to say there isn’t one. And soon, you won’t be able to buy their games on GOG or anywhere else.
One of the most popular PC (and Mac) gaming storefronts, GOG has announced that they’ll be de-listing the complete Telltale catalog. The mass removal will take place this Monday the 27th.
Up until then you’ll still be able to buy any Telltale games that GOG carries, and anything in your library will be yours to keep moving forward. So even though the games will not be purchasable, you’ll still be able to play them if you buy before Monday. So, I guess if you want any, now’s the time.
Industry site MCV also points out that Steam has been removing Telltale games for a while, but have not completely closed them out as of yet. Also, apparently 2K is working on a deal to get the rights for the Tales from the Borderlands titles.
It’s probably a decent bet that they’ll get them, since they do publish the Borderlands franchise. Presuming they do, that’ll mean the return of those specific games to online shops.
