New fighter Shiki detailed in Samurai Showdown

One of Samurai Showdown’s newest additions, the female ninja Shiki is looking like she’s ready to slice and dice in the latest trailer.

Mystical

Wielding twin blades, mystical powers, and a passing resemblance to Marvel’s Psylocke is Shiki. The deadly new character added to SNK’s Samurai Showdown rebirth is looking like she’ll more than be able to compete with the icons of the series.

Lots to like with the flashier moves that Shiki is sporting. She shows off the new engine that SNK’s latest uses pretty well. Though she’s not the only new addition to the game’s roster, and each one has their own strengths. SNK touts a total of 4 newcomers, who’ll be combined with 13 of the original series’ fighters to create a fairly sizable selection of combatants.

According to SNK, they wanted to keep the look of the original, while updating the visuals to a more modern level. From the series of trailers we’ve seen, it looks like they’re on track.

Not that fans will have to worry about the formula changing too much, since Samurai Showdown is still a 2D fighter at heart. It’s just that now this 2D fighter packs in some sparkling effects and both online and offline modes.

Samurai Showdown is coming up fast too. Well, it is depending on where you’d like to play it. The fighter will be landing on the PS4 and Xbox One this June, with a Switch edition coming in quarter 4. There’s also a PC edition on the way, though there’s no date as of yet for that.
