With the movie less than a week away, Marvel is loading retail outlets up with Doctor Strange merchandise.
Doctor Strange goes big
I’m pretty sure that there’s never been all that big of a fan base for Doc Strange. Oh, I know that now that the movie is here, there’ll be all manner of people popping up and saying that he was always their favorite superhero. Quite frankly, I doubt that.
Marvel’s number one sorcerer hasn’t enjoyed widespread popularity in ages, if he really ever has. That’s not to say that he’s not a cool character though, cause he really is, and his new book is one that I’m so far enjoying. But up there with Spider-Man, Captain America, and Wolverine he ain’t.
Though that all might be about to change. Marvel is loading up at retail on the good Doctor, and you won’t have too much trouble finding him on store shelves.
“The origin film for Doctor Strange is going to be a mysterious, action-packed adventure and we are excited to debut a merchandising program that successfully captures the mystical nature of the franchise,” said Paul Gitter, Senior Vice President, Licensing, Marvel at Disney Consumer Products. “Fans of the Sorcerer Supreme will have an array of options to choose from including apparel and accessories to toys and collectibles, perfect for showcasing their love of Marvel’s Doctor Strange.”
An entire (and really cool) Marvel Legends is devoted to him currently, but that’s not all. There’s also a (also really cool) LEGO set of his Sanctum Santorum, a Funko Pop! figure, and other assorted goodies. So if you want Strange, then you’ve got him.
In all, here’s what’s out there right now or hitting soon:
- LEGO Doctor Strange Sanctum Sanctorum
- Funko POP! Vinyl Doctor Strange Assortment
- Mad Engine Doctor Strange Fan Apparel
- Hasbro Doctor Strange 6” Legends Figure Assortment
- Marvel’s Color Your Own Doctor Strange
- Marvel’s Doctor Strange Vol. 1: The Way of the Weird
In addition, you’ll also be able to grab a Halloween costume thanks to Rubies. Looking for clothing and accessories instead of costumes? There’s also stuff from companies like C-Life, Freeze, Mighty Fine, Hybrid, Bioworld, Sprayground, Berkshire, New Era, and Salesone out there.
And of course, it goes without saying that you can find all this stuff at the usual suspects. Walmart, Target, Toys “R” Us, Amazon, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Hot Topic, and Disney Store will all be getting in on the retailing act.
