SDCC 2016: Sega Announces Sonic Mania

Sonic is Back in Two Dimensions.

Sega announced Sonic Mania at its San Diego Comic-Con party to celebrate the blue hedgehog’s 25th anniversary. Sonic Mania features a return to form for our favorite speedster with gameplay right out of the classic Genesis games. The blast from the past will also have revamped zones from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles as well as new stages.

Sonic Mania is being developed by Sega of America in collaboration with PagodaWest Games. Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said, “Sonic Mania was born out of our fans’ love of the classic 2D games. This type of collaboration is a first for Sega and we hope everyone will be both surprised and delighted by this title.”

Sonic Mania will be released digitally on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Spring 2017.
