The Gallery opening on HTC’s Vive VR headset next month

The Gallery: Call of the Starseed looks great and sounds even better as a launch title for HTC’s Vive.

“So many of the things we’ve done in The Gallery are completely new. There were no pre-baked solutions, no standards when we started this adventure in 2013,” says Cloudhead Games CEO Denny Unger. “What we’re striving for is to give consumers a great introduction to VR and to build their excitement for the future of the medium as a whole. VR done right can make you feel like a kid again and it can give you all the excuses you need to lose yourself in the moment — to simply play!”

See these are the kinds of experiences that make me sad I don’t have a VR headset. According to developer Clopudhead Games, The Gallery “channels” 80s adventures like (wait for it) Goonies and Labyrinth. See? Now you want a Vive too.

The game will pull you into its world with more than just plot and looks too, as The Gallery has “full motion control” and “room scale”, which sounds interesting. You’ll make your way through locales like “derelict beaches, abandoned sewers, quirky laboratories and a mysterious machine”, all through the use of Cloudhead’s Blink Locomotion System. Using Blink, you’ll be free to make use of both your hands and your body on your quest through The Gallery’s perilous world.

Quite frankly, it sounds pretty awesome. The Gallery: Episode 1 – Call of the Starseed will be available on April 5th on Steam for the HTC Vive.
