SHODAN is out to scare the pants off of PC gamers again; System Shock 3 is coming.
Not only did this announcement kind of come out of nowhere, but it’s absolutely massive. System Shock has a very special place in the hearts of gamers pretty much across the boards after all, so the announcement of a second sequel is just about the biggest news that could hit on a Monday in December. There’s a reason for that too.
Basically, a teaser site was launched for the game not too long ago, and it got cracked pretty quickly. That revealed the name of the game (System Shock 3), and so we get the announcement now, instead of whenever it was originally intended. The whole thing came together as a result of the IP holder (OtherSide) making a deal with the trademark holder, Night Dive Studios. And though the announcement is early, the content is pretty darn interesting, especially for longtime game fans.
The founder of Looking Glass (the developers behind the original two games) Paul Neurath has assembled a team in OtherSide that will be handling development of SS3. That team is made up of people who worked on both previous games, including Nate Wells, a senior artist on System Shock 2 and Robb Waters, who was lead concept artist. So bottom line- this new Shock is going to look perfectly in line with the older ones.
Unfortunately there’s no release date pointed to just yet, but well have plenty more on this one as news develops. For now though, you can rest easy in the fact that there’s a bunch of folks who love System Shock, and helped birth the franchise working on it. Well, that and that Terri Brosius will indeed be back as the monstrous AI SHODAN.
