A roguelike, side-scrolling action game with robots, powerups and co-op play? 20XX sounds like just the thing if you’re missing a little robot-busting action.
Brought out into the spotlight not all that long ago, 20XX looks like a Mega Man fan’s dream, especially since new games starring the Blue Bomber are nowhere to be found and the ‘spiritual successor’ to the series has been delayed into 2016.
As you can see, the game offers much of what makes Mega Man such a fun time, including the difficulty setting. It is pretty different than Capcom’s classic franchise though, as the levels are all procedurally generated, you can upgrade your character, and power-ups are plentiful, not just attainable at the end of each level. It kind of looks like a blast.
And if you’d like to try out this robotic action affair sooner than later, then you’re in luck. That’s because the beta starts this coming week, on September 15th. You can actually play the game right now in its Alpha form on Steam Early Access, but things have progressed to the level that the team at developer Batterystaple Games is ready to call things ‘beta’, so that next phase will start on the 15th. Your choice if you want to dive in now or wait for a bit till things are official.
