The upcoming ‘ultimate’ edition of the first Gears of War game is looking like it just might be the best bargain on the Xbox One for action gamers craving some Locust-sawing action this late-summer.
First, watch this new trailer (because it’s awesome).
Okay, now that that’s out of the way, on to the point of the article- you’re going to get a heck of a lot of Gears for your buck if you buy Gears of War Ultimate Edition. And by that I mean the entire (original) set of four games, all of which can be played on your Xbox One.
Through the miracle of backwards-compatibility, we already knew that Xbox 360 games were going to be making the transition to the wonderful world of the Xbox One, and it looks like some of the first will be the Gears series. For a limited time, if you buy the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War, you’ll get downloadable copies of Gears 2, 3, and Judgement (as well as the vanilla version of the first game) for free. And yes, that’s pretty great.
As for what “limited time” actually translates into, you’ll need to buy (obviously) and play a copy of Gears Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live some time between launch and December 31st, 2015 to be eligible for the freebies. At that point, you’ll receive a ‘token’ for redemption on Live. And that’ll allow you to download the series for free, as soon as it becomes available for play on the Xbox One.
The game drops in for the Xbox One on August 25th.
