James Bond’s newest film is all about the nefarious organization called SPECTRE, and the new trailer gives us the first look at the man behind it all, portrayed by actor Christoph Waltz.
A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.
Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.
As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz
It definitely feels as though this is set to be one of the biggest Bond films in years, with an evil, world-conquering organization and more of those famed 007 gadgets (love that car). I’d expect nothing less than a little bit of a throwback to the earlier and simpler movies of the franchise though, before the Daniel Craig reboots started, since we are talking about SPECTRE.
If you’re not familiar with the Bond villains, SPECTRE translates into Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion in the books and movies that have come before. It’s unknown if the name actually means anything (other than being creepy) in the new film, or if the classic villain at the top, Earnst Stavro Blofeld, is whom Christoph Waltz will play.
Personally, I think it’d be a crime to not have him be the heavy as he’s such a classic Bond foe, but this is a whole new series (that’s just turning 4 movies old), so you never know what direction that they’ll go. Either way, it looks freaking fantastic and is most definitely one of the most hotly anticipated films of the Autumn/Holiday slate.
SPECTER hits theaters this November the 6th.
