In the 80s/90s, this is definitely not the Arnie that you’d expect to see in a movie about a zombie apocalypse. Still though, Maggie actually looks like it could be interesting.
I’m a big Schwarzenegger fan, well I’m a big fan of the flicks that he used to make, and Maggie wasn’t on my radar in the slightest. Not that I thought it was a bad movie, I just kind of didn’t know it existed. Actually though, Maggie looks kind of… interesting.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but Im getting a kind of Last of Us vibe from it, and it certainly seems like the film is shooting for a more mature and slower-paced look at a zombie plague than you usually find outside of something like The Walking Dead. Just from the press release alone, we know that the virus that’s affecting Abigail Breslin’s Maggie is a slow moving one, though one that turns its victim into a canniballistic killer all the same.
Just how ‘horrific’ the themes that play out are I don’t know, but I imagine there’ll probably be at least a little blood and some implied gore sprinkled throughout just to keep the genre fans happy. Why ‘implied’ you ask? Because the film is rated PG-13, which definitely doesn’t lend itself to buckets of blood.
Maggie, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin, hits theaters this May.
