Nintendo’s Iwata cans rumors of a Zelda TV series and Wii U price drop

In an interview with Time magazine, the Nintendo chief has quashed any talk of a live-action (or otherwise) Netflix Legend of Zelda series, as well as any price drop for the Wii U.

Satoru Iwata actually had quite a bit to say to the magazine, but maybe the biggest things were about the state of Zelda on TV, and the Wii U.

It’s probably pretty common knowledge now that the Wii U is heading for ‘last-gen’ designation. Nintendo is hard at work on a new console, only three years after the launch of the Wii U, which has been a near total flop in terms of sales. Though there are a few stellar title on the console, it just can’t seem to catch on with gamers, and hasn’t really had anything that you could call a major system seller- even in the face of Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8, which were both healthy sellers.

Still though, Iwata says that a price cut for the Wii U is not in the cards. He blames the exchange rate and elaborates, saying that the console simply cannot be lowered in price any more than the point that its currently at. Of course, there are cheaper ways to get a Wii U, and some great bundles out there, but the official price will stay the same… for now anyway.

And as for that Netflix series based on The Legend of Zelda, you know, the one everyone was talking about as a ‘lock’? Yeah, that’s not happening. Without getting too deep, Iwata said that the original article that broke the news was based on bad info. So, that’s about that.

What? You though Nintendo might actually be doing something with one of its IPs that people would enjoy, and might *shock* make them some money? Perish the thought. What do you think this is, the 80s?
