Steam loses some hatred, game pulled by Valve

The game that lets players off regular everyday folks gets the yank from Steam’s severs by Valve.

You may not have heard a ton about developer Destructive Creations’ Hatred, and there’s a reason. The game is controversial to be sure, very controversial, and it’s all because the game allows you to basically go on an insane rampage, killing those that you normally would be cast as a protector of in most games.

Now, you might be wondering why a game like this would get the heave-ho from Steam’s Greenlight section (where it just posted), while titles like Postal and Manhunt passed through without a hitch. Steam sent a message to the developers on that very topic, saying that they reserve the right to pull any game that has material in it that works against the company’s policies.

What are those policies? A game “must not contain offensive material or violate copyright or intellectual property rights”. You’re probably asking yourself why Hatred contains those kinds of things when the aforementioned titles ‘don’t’. Personally, I have no idea as I find Postal pretty awful and borderline disgusting- not that I want to see it off Steam mind you, as I’m a staunch supporter of freedom of speech, I’m just saying.

Destructive Creations went ahead and put it on record that they understand and respect Valve’s decision to remove the game from their servers, but also that development will continue. So for those who are still interested in seeing what Hatred is all about, you’ll still be getting your chance… just not through Steam.
