Here we have some footage of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker from San Diego Comic-Con 2014. Captain Toad must navigate his way through a fiery maze while avoiding the attacks of a dragon.
From what we see here, the puzzles appear to be more sophisticated this time around. Components such as the ladder in the level which moves left and right add some potential depth to the stages in Captain Toad. The boss battle is basically an obstacle course, much like the fights against Bowser in NSMBWii and Super Mario 3D World. Avoiding his attacks, and making it safely to the goal yields you victory. There’s more treasure collecting this time around, so instead of simply collecting green stars, you also have to find goodies like precious gems. You can pull up vegetables like you would in Super Mario Brothers 2, which is a nice throwback.
It’s definitely appears to be more engaging and satisfying than the original Captain Toad in Super Mario 3D World. Not to say it wasn’t enjoyable, but what Nintendo has produced is most certainly going to be a superior experience. Be sure to stay tuned for more SDCC news on Brutalgamer. We’ll be covering just about everything this entire week.
