New device looks to bring Steam to the portable world

A new portable gaming device in the works is looking to bring the popular gaming service Steam to a new portable format.

The machine, which looks like a Play Station Portable, is currently in the start up phase. The makers, Steamboy Machine Team, are not affiliated with Valve.

escapistmagazine.com  reports that the system may include “Quad-Core CPU, 4GB RAM, a 32GB built-in memory card, and a 5″ 16:9 touchscreen.” They went on to say “SteamBoy won’t be as powerful as other announced Steam Machines in the same way [the] Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita performance is not comparable to Wii U or PlayStation 4,” a representative wrote via email. “However, it will be possible to play the majority of current games in Steam.”

This will be the first portable device to use Steam OS. It’s expected to release in 2015.

About Martin

I’m a journalism student at Loyalist College in Ontario, Canada. As a budding journalist, I’m naturally curious. I play video games, perhaps more often than I should, and I mainly like RPG games. Not to say that I would pass up a great game based on genre alone, I just prefer the tried and true RPG. I have a love of music, video games, and the world.
