Holding onto your sword isn’t the easiest of things to do in the world of Piranha Bites’ Risen 3: Titan Lords.
Piranha Bytes and publisher Deep Silver are hailing Risen 3 as an old school “classic European” role-player that won’t “hold your hand’ as you set out to explore its massive world. The developer wants you to have a feeling of freedom and a ‘go anywhere at any time’ mentality as you play, a very good thing and an element that RPG fans have more often than not come to expect from the top shelf RPG’s of the last few decades. It might be hard to imagine, but I can remember a tim when role-playing meant keeping to a very linear storyline and plot where deviation wasn’t really something you cold look forward to, unless it was a pre-determined side-quest that is.
While not a blockbuster, the Risen franchise has been pretty well-recieved by PC and console players since its birth and Risen 3: Titan Lords looks like it might be the most impressive one yet with a darker tone and that wide-open game world. You won’t have too much longer to wait for it either as Risen 3 is expected to hit the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC this August.
