Cap discovers the Illuminati’s Original Sin in Avengers #29

The elite of the Marvel U are in for a world of hurt as Steve Rogers regains memories that reveal the group’s Original Sin.

This May, the collision of the Avengers and New Avengers is imminent as treacheries come to light in AVENGERS #29 – an Original Sin tie-in!

The Illuminati, a secret cabal of the Marvel Universe’s greatest minds, was brought together for a single purpose – to protect the world from the threat of multiversal armageddon. But to save our entire universe, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Mr. Fantastic, Namor, The Black Panther, The Beast and Black Bolt would have to do the unthinkable.

To protect their secret, they tampered with the memories of Captain America – erasing his knowledge of their terrible acts. But no secret stays buried forever. And Steve Rogers is about to discover the betrayal of his closest allies.

“Everything that has been going on in AVENGERS and NEW AVENGERS virtually from the start has been building to this moment,” says Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “Now, all the cards are on the table—and the fallout from the Illuminati’s decision to erase Cap’s memories is going to require everybody to choose a side. From this point forward, events will accelerate faster and faster towards a shattering and unexpected climax! But first, the future awaits!”

With Captain America’s memories restored, the Illuminati’s days are numbered. The clash of the Avengers and New Avengers is upon us. What shocking secrets have Tony Stark and his secret inner circle been keeping? Find out as the truth stands revealed in AVENGERS #29!

This a deep seeded one that’s bound to have some very long-term consequences. The Illuminati aren’t the most trustworthy bunch and never have been (remember World War Hulk?) so it’s going to be a universe-shaking after effect once Cap finds out what’s been done to him. And lets not forget that Cap isn’t someone to mess with in any way.

While I’m not crazy to hear that Avengers like Iron Man might be pitted against the shield-slinger again, but it should be a wild one. I’m a big Captain America fan so I’d like nothing less than to see the sentinel of liberty at his toughest and most driven again. And of course, there’s some pretty nice timing here too with The Winter Soldier feature film on the way too.

Catch Avengers #29 and the beginning of Original Sin, from Jonathan Hickman and Leinil Yu on the racks this May.
