Watch Dogs officially dated for this May

With a Tweet signaling the date appearing and then getting deleted, Ubisoft has officially unveiled the release date for the hotly anticipated Watch Dogs, complete with a new trailer. Get ready to get excited for this one all over again.

I was one of the people who had their enthusiasm dulled a little by the postponement of Watch Dogs when it slipped off of Ubisoft’s release schedule for 2013, but my mind’s changing again now that a date has been announced and that trailer was released. Basically, that’s because there’s a lot to get excited about with the adventures of Aiden Pierce.

Pierce is the central character in Watch Dogs; a hacker who broke into the systems of the wrong people. With his life in shambles, he sets out to make the bad guys pay- in both old school and decidedly new ways. It’s the latter that’s most interesting here as your cell phone is a gateway to the city of Chicago’s internal computer grid. Using an entire city as a weapon is a pretty new concept and it should at the very least be something different to have that kind of freedom in a game.

“We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs™,” said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ubisoft. “We are extremely confident that the additional time we afforded the dev team to refine and polish the game will be more than worth the wait.”

Gamers who pick up the game on their PlayStation series of machines are in for a little added treat too. Although the game is multiplatform, PS3 and PS4 players will be on the receiving end of an hour of added “gameplay” via the PSN. Exactly what that might entail it still something of a mystery, but if I were to guess, I’d say you’re probably looking at a few more missions for Mr. Pierce to undertake.

“We’re really excited for the launch of Watch Dogs on both PS3® and PS4® and are confident that it will prove to be one of the standout games of 2014,” said Michael Pattison, Vice President, Third Party Relations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “It’s a unique and visionary game and we believe that the exclusive content available via PSN will not only excite gamers, but showcase how PlayStation® is a preferred destination for Watch Dogs.”

And now that magic revelation- Watch Dogs will be available globally for the PS4/3, Xbox One/360 and the PC on May 27th. If you’re getting nervous because you didn’t see the Wii U version mentioned there, don’t; it’s still on the way, but there’s no release date as of yet for it.
