Elixir: The League of Immortality (iOs) Review

It’s a legend nearly as old as time itself, the idea that somewhere there is hidden a secret spring that will give its imbibers that which they desire – immortality.

Elixir: The League of Immortality is a hidden object adventure game from G5 Entertainment that re-imagines the legend of the fountain of youth in a mysterious adventure that has players performing as a skilled detective. The small town the game is set in is under siege. Residents tell of a terrifying creature that has been plaguing the town. The police deny that any such thing exists, but when the town’s beloved mayor is found murdered under highly suspicious circumstances (that apparently involved teeth and claws), terror is a natural response.

Lucky for them, the very best of the best has been brought in to investigate the murder. You are a highly respected detective, trained to look beneath the surface and unravel the mystery. In that capacity, you will be traveling to a variety of locations in search of clues. You’ll study the crime scene, interrogate witnesses and suspects alike, and uncover a tale of a secret society that has an odd obsession with immortality. It’s a tale of betrayal, murder, and brilliant detective work – and it is presented quite entertainingly.

The basic mechanics of the game are pretty standard hidden object adventure stuff, but they are done quite well. You’ll be gong back and forth between the many locations, first picking up pertinent objects to store in your inventory, examining the areas, and talking with the people in them. You’ll also find a variety of items that need a little something to function – locks without keys, doors without handles, etc. You’ll need to locate these items (0ften found in an entirely different location), and them bring them back to uncover the clues behind them.

In addition to wandering in search of clues and fetching lost items, you’ll also play a number of traditional object finds. These involve a set screen with a jumble of objects on it. There is a list of items you must find amidst the jumble. Once you have located all of them, you’ll receive an item you needed to continue the case. These are done well in Elixir – just challenging enough to be fun, without being frustrating. If you do happen to get stuck though, either in a jumble or in another area, you can tap the magnifying glass in the right hand corner to get a quick hint to set you on the right path.

Like many games in this genre, the action is not exclusively of the hidden object variety. You will also play a number of mini games that add a bit of variety and serve to advance the story as well. These range from things like completing circuits to flipping switches in the correct order, and generally are a nice diversion. If they aren’t your thing though (or you get stuck), you can skip them after a short while.

Elixir: The League of Immortality is a well done hidden object adventure that combines an interesting story line with classic hidden object fun. There are three different difficulty levels to suit any skill level, and loads of puzzles and locations to keep you busy. It’s a great choice for fans of the genre, or anyone looking for a little casual fun this holiday season.
