Saturday Radar: GamesRadar’s best for the week of 11/4/13

What’s that? Yes, we know it’s Sunday- just play along, because we’ve got a nice helping of GR’s best for this past week for your lazy afternoon. Read on for more Call of Duty: Ghosts than you can shake a stick at and possible Assassin’s Creed V teases that the crew uncovered in the just released Black Flag.

How not to suck in Call of Duty: Ghosts

I’m… not good… at multiplayer shooters. Really- not. Good. I happen to love FPS’ in general though and very happily play through campaign and story modes with the best of them. It’s just that, when it comes to playing against humans, I’m not of the type to practice (practice, practice) enough to really be all that good. Oh sure, I get my ‘kills’, but I’m never really having all that much fun and always feel like I’m lagging way behind… which is probably because I am.

So it’s probably a good thing then that GR put together this simple and straight-forward feature about succeeding at Call of Duty: Ghosts. It might not make you an all-star (or maybe it will), but the tips here will definitely get you back into the game and on the right track towards at the very least getting some decent stats going for your online avatar. And maybe, just maybe, you get shot as much. Or come in last place every stinking round… not that I’m speaking from personal experience mind you.

Read- and don’t suck

Call of Duty: Ghosts makes $1 billion in record sales? Not quite

Now here’s a story that we ran earlier this week right here on BG- Call of Duty: Ghosts rakes in almost a billion in sales. Is it accurate though? According to the GamesRadar team, that answer to that one is a resounding ‘no’.

See, here’s the thing, While Activision announced the retailer sell numbers for the game, they didn’t mention the actual sales to consumer number at all. So all we really found out was that retailers bought a bunch of Ghosts. Whether those copies of the game turned around into sales to shoppers or not is a whole ‘nother equation.

I’m sure Call of Duty: Ghosts sold boat-loads of games, there’s very little doubt that it didn’t, so it’s not that there’s a chance that the title is a flop- but it just might not be as big a hit as Activision is saying it is. In fact, there’s a very good chance that it didn’t even do as well as last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II did. How did this shake out?

Assassin’s Creed 5’s settings teased in AC4: Black Flag

I loved Assassin’s Creed right up till Revelations (and our own Mike Jones thought ACIV was the bee’s knees), but I haven’t been into the franchise since. I couldn’t really tell you why other than the fact that I felt like the Assassin’s vs Templars storyline had so many possibilities that it just seemed like Ubisoft wasn’t too keen on exploring. Black Flag, due in no small part to our own review of the game, has me thinking that it might be time to return to the Assassin’s Creed universe, and it might be a great time to do so if GamesRadar is on the money.

They’ve published a list of locales ‘leaked’ through an internal email in the offices of ACIV’s Abstergo Entertainment that just might show a number of possible settings for the secret war to head next. Among the very cool possibilities are Egypt, Napoleonic France, the American Mid-West in the 19th century and the 1960’s US.

All of those could be cool, but GR then goes on to list some of the places they’d like to see things go with Germany in the 1500’s and Baghdad circa 1250 (which could be awesome indeed). Personally, I’d like to see a real near-future age AC title. No Animus, no memories, just the Assassin’s taking it to the Templars with all the futuristic trimmings you can imagine. If we’re talking setting that are more in line with the series though (and closer to what Ubisoft might actually do any time soon), I’d seriously be up for a return to war-torn Europe in the days of World War II.

There’s so many secrets yet to be revealed about the second great war and still so much today that’s not known about it’s machinations, that a bit of Assassin/Templar intervention would feel right at home.

Take a look at the piece on GR right here and see think about where you might want to see things go for the now iconic franchise, then head back here and feel free to chat it up in the comments section below.
