The Secret Origin of Tony Stark storyline comes to a close with an issue that Marvel promises will turn old Shellhead’s life upside down.
“Building this has been an incredible experience on many levels”, said series editor Mark Paniccia. “I asked Kieron to come up with something big for IRON MAN’s 50th Anniversary and he came back with an idea that was big and extremely bold. I didn’t think it would fly with the higher-ups. But they saw the potential to expand Tony’s character and knew what Kieron had was not just great but an important story…a story that embraced the kind of realism that Marvel is known for. Tony’s world will change…hell, anybody’s would.”
“We’ve got a character coming into Tony’s life that no one will expect—but fans will love”, adds Paniccia. “There’s a sense of destiny here, and the stories that will follow are leading to more intense moments and some really cool new villains.”
Iron Man’s has been one of the more revised origins over the years, but even though the setting changes through the decades and the characters involved are a bit different, it has stayed more or less static in all the basic ingredients. Marvel Comics isn’t afraid to shake things up for fans though, and that’s more than evident across the boards at the publisher in the Marvel NOW! era. Basically, what you knew about your favorite heroes (and villains) could change in the blink of an eye.
And it definitely sounds like that’s what’s happening with Tony. Those are some big time statements made by Paniccia after all and anything less than a major revelation would fall short of the promise, so I’m guess that Marvel has something pretty darned massive in store for a character that’s become one of the biggest in the company’s stable.
Find out what’s changing and just how Tony Stark’s life will be forever altered when Iron Man #17 hits shelves on October 16th.
