The Evil Within comes from the scary, scary brain of Mr. Resident Evil himself Shinji Mikami. An industry vet of 20 years, Mikami is looking to take survival horror back to its roots with The Evil Within and it looks like he’s on the right track.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within,” said Mikami. “My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.”

Billed as a ‘true’ survival horror title from Mikami, The Evil Within should make fans smile wide as the first Resident Evil titles were landmarks in the genre and pretty much brought it to the next level. Recently, games like Dead Space 3 and Resident Evil 5 & 6 have made survival horror more action oriented than ever before- hopefully Mikami can change that trend.

Expect the game to creep onto retail shelves sometime next year for both current and next generation consoles and the PC.
