Inafune reveals his new game, Azure Striker Gunvolt

Kenji Inafune, creator of Megaman, has revealed yet another game in the pipeline. The new title is named Azure Striker Gunvolt, and it like Mighty No. 9 it bares a resemblance to Megaman X.

Gunvolt is a 2D run and gun game, it stars a psychic named Gunvolt clad in blue. Like Megaman, you fire projectiles at enemies, and have various special abilities at your disposal. Even the music has a similar tone to that of the Megaman X games. As the story progresses, Gunvolt’s becomes even more powerful as he matures. Speaking of story, the trailer went into great detail to explain it. To sum it up, Gunvolt joins a group of psychics to fight against a tyrannical conglomerate known as the Sumeragi Group. The boss battles in particular look interesting, and look somewhat like the kind of fights you’d see in Megaman X. They have wild designs and are rather epic in scale.

Considering he’s working on Mighty No. 9 at the moment, it’s impressive to see him jump into a new project so very soon. Even better still, this title will be ready to sell fairly soon. The game is expected to arrive on the Nintendo 3DS this summer.
