Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film gets creepy first look

We’re finally getting a good sense of how director Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is shaping up, and it’s looking… good?

Resident Evil expands

We have to admit, we’re taking a little aback by the teaser trailer for Resident Evil. Maybe we shouldn’t be though, given the mind behind it. The latest movie to adapt publisher Capcom’s long-running video game property, 2026’s Resident Evil hails from Zach Cregger.

Cregger brought horror fans the likes of Weapons and Barbarian after all, both of which were horror hits. That said, Resident Evil is pretty easily his potentially biggest project yet, and advance word, well it kind of had us worried. After all, we had heard it wasn’t related at all to the games, which would have been… not great.

Since then though, Cregger himself has said that he envisions the film taking place on the other side of Raccoon City, during the iconic RE2 outbreak. So while fans won’t see Leon and Clair, it might feel a little familiar nonetheless. Oh yea, and today’s trailer is looking pretty great.

In it, we see a single traveller heading to a lonely house on the side of the road. It’s there that he tries to use the phone, signaling that he’s had some issues getting as far as he has. From the rest of this early look, we get that, as it looks like he was lucky to escape Raccoon City with his life. At least, we assume that the larger city that’s seen in the teaser is Raccoon, since it’s not actually named. Not yet anyway.

Stay tuned. We’ve got a feeling that there’s much more coming up for the Resident Evil film, as it heads towards its September 18th, 2026 launch into theaters.
