The first Sonic X Shadow Generations short is out, bringing Dark Beginnings

Dark indeed, as the first animated short for Sonic X Shadow Generations shows a troubled and tragic past for Shadow.

Darkness falls

More dramatic than it probably has a right to be, Sega’s first of three animated shorts is out, promoting the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations game. Beautifully animated, Dark Beginnings showcases Shadow’s past, and just how his world fell apart.

His nightmares lead him back to a time shortly after he was created, and he was stationed on a space-based facility high above the Earth. It’s there that he was friend and caretaker to a young girl named Maria. But that wasn’t meant to last very long at all…

See what we meant? Again too, this is the first of three shorts that’ll arrive to herald the game. The second, “Episode 2: Finding the Way”, will be dropping on October 3rd, which will be followed up with “Episode 3: To the Ark” on October 10th.

All of those will be followed by the actual release of Sonic X Shadow Generations of course, which will arrive for consoles and the PC on October 25th. That release will bring the fan favorite Sonic Generations (2011) back around for a new generation of players, complete with a whole new Shadow-based adventure included.

Digital and Physical pre-orders are open right now for Sonic X Shadow Generations, and you’ll get a free “legacy skin for Modern Sonic based on his look from Sonic Adventure” (according to Sega) if you partake. On top of that, those who pre-order the Physical Day One Edition will receive Gerald Robotnik’s journal, where fans will find Robotnik’s “experience creating Shadow and the Ark Space Station.”
