Cosmic collection of variant covers revealed for upcoming X-Men spinoff, Phoenix #1

Jean Grey is back in the yellow and green, as she once again adopts the name “Phoenix” for an all-new series this summer.

Now and forever?

One of the newest in a collection of X-titles landing this summer and fall, Phoenix is indeed a part of the “From the Ashes” era that’s about to dawn. While that new series of tales will take the X-Men out of their former Krakoan home, Jean is going just a tad farther thanks to writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Alessandro Miracolo.

Apparently the powerful telepath and telekinetic will be leaving the Earth altogether, and taking to the stars. This will also see another big change, as she once again takes on the guise of “Phoenix“. No, not “Dark Phoenix”, just Phoenix. Though actually, from the sound of things there might be a little of the darkness included for bad measure.

And being that this is a pretty big time launch for Marvel, the publisher will be going ‘cosmic’ on its launch, with an assortment of variant covers.

Earlier this week in Rise of the Powers of X #5, one of the final issues of the X-Men’s Krakoan Age, Jean Grey was dramatically reborn as the Phoenix and promptly saved all of existence from an all-consuming AI Dominion. It was a battle outside of time and space that will go down in Marvel Comics history, and only a taste of the awe-inspiring feats that Jean will continue to achieve in her new solo series. Reigniting suns, suppressing black holes, taking on the likes of Gorr the God Butcher and Thanos’ Black Order singlehandedly, and teaming up with fellow space-faring heroes like Nova, Corsair, and Captain Marvel—Jean is no longer the Earth-bound X-Man you knew; she’s the Phoenix, now and forever! Glorious adventures await, but while the galaxies beckon Jean for salvation, will they also be reminded of her appetite for destruction?

PHOENIX #1’s variant covers include breathtaking pieces of Jean by industry superstars like Rose Besch, Greg Land, Aka, and Peach Momoko. And like many of Marvel’s major launches, PHOENIX #1 will have a fiery Foil Variant Cover—drawn by the legendary Joe Quesada.

Marvel Comics press release

Look for Phoenix #1 on the stands this July the 17th.
