SNK titles arrive weekly on the Nintendo eShop, but all of those games have one thing in common – they’re all NEO GEO titles. This fall, that changes with a collection dedicated to the publisher’s catalog before their legendary arcade/home system.
SNK Classics
Announced just today, this collection goes a long way towards adding a collection of classics to Nintendo’s Switch. That’s most welcome, since the much hoped for Virtual Console still hasn’t had so much as a whisper and we’re over a year into the console’s life.
As collections go too, this is a pretty chunky one. So far, a total of 13 games have been announced, but SNK and publisher NIS say that there are more on the way. As it stands now though, the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection will get you:
1. Alpha Mission (Console/Arcade)
2. Athena (Console/Arcade)
3. Crystalis (Console)
4. Ikari Warriors (Console/Arcade)
5. Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road (Console/Arcade) 6. Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue (Console/Arcade) 7. Guerrilla War (Console/Arcade)
8. P.O.W. (Console/Arcade)
9. Prehistoric Isle (Arcade)
10. Psycho Soldier (Arcade)
11. Street Smart (Arcade)
12. TNK III (Console/Arcade)
13. Vanguard (Arcade)
But wait, there’s more
As you might expect, the set will have a few choice extras, not solely games. You can expect to see a rewind feature, which is something that’s becoming more common in classics collections. Basically, if you mess up you can wind back your progress. And yes, that’s kind of cheating. In all fairness though, some of these bad boys might be a little tougher than modern gamers might prefer.
Also included will be a museum feature, that’ll allow players to check out “the legacy of one of Japan’s leading developers with high definition artwork and original promotional assets!” Pretty neat, and kind of an add-on that you’d expect to see.
As to when you’ll be able to play and check out all of the above, that’d be this fall. Nope, there’s no firm date as of yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as there is.
