See the evolution of Kyle Crane in the latest trailer for Dying Light: The Beast

A man made into a monster, original series hero Kyle Crane is back and looking for revenge on his tormentors in Dying Light: The Beast.

Developer Techland is back with yet another early look at this fall’s Dying Light: The Beast. This one’s the most visceral video yet, digging into the recent background of lead character Kyle Crane. Most fans probably recognize that name best from the original game in the series, but the version of Crane that stars in this upcoming title isn’t going to be the one that you remember.

While he’s the same character for sure, he’s also fresh out of confinement, having spent a decade as a science experiment. That came at the hands of villain The Baron, a man who was trying to re-forge Crane into something inhuman.

Here to fill in a little of that ten years is the below video, which digs into a little Torture & Suffering.

Duality and brutality

Kyle Crane seems to be a super-powered killing machine in Dying Light: The Beast, but he won’t always be. According to the new developer blog post from Techland, playing as Crane in the game will have two distinct parts. One of those will be visually represented by the left half of his body, unscarred and wholly human.

As for the right, it’s not quite so clean and tidy. Scars and a right eye that is definitely not normal are the telltale markings that Crane isn’t who or what he was. And once The Beast comes out to play, players will see massive black veining crawl its way across their character’s arms.

It all sounds like it should come together to present some interesting gameplay options, not to mention fun. Who wouldn’t like to turn the tables on the zombies after all, and really wreak some havoc? But physicality isn’t all that players will have access to, as there’s also the gunplay.

From the blog, it looks like firearms will play a much bigger part in Dying Light: The Beast, than they did in Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Since Crane is a former military operative, that only makes sense, and Techland says his handling of guns will evolve in the game, as he gets himself acclimated to using them again.

So far, what the developer is dishing out sounds (and looks) pretty fantastic. Stay tuned as well, as we’ll probably have more for you between now and the launch date for Dying Light: The Beast, which is coming up on September 19th. Look for it on the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
