Alan Rebels is on the hunt for both spirits and his lost father, in Daedalic Entertainment and DALOAR’s The Occultist.
The hidden world
If recent stabs at ethereal horror haven’t been your thing, The Occultist might change things for you. From Daedalic Entertainment and developer DALOAR, who you might know better under its former name of Pentakill Studios, The Occultist centers on a mane who’s no stranger to the mystic.
Players take on the role of Alan Rebels, who is able to wield a mystic pendulum that has “five unique mechanics to interact with and manipulate the environment”. That doesn’t mean that he can actually battle the dead with that pendulum though, as direct combat isn’t an option in The Occultist. Instead, players will have to actually communicate with them, and find stealthier means to make it past the more aggressive horrors that stand in their way.
In “The Occultist” players will step into the shoes of Alan Rebels as he embarks on a harrowing journey to the enigmatic island of Godstone, determined to uncover the truth behind his father’s mysterious disappearance. Equipped with his mystical pendulum, Alan must navigate the foggy streets and eerie buildings of Godstone, a place once home to a notorious cult known for its disturbing experiments and rituals.
Daedalic Entertainment press release
While that early look at The Occultist was definitely not representative of the title’s first-person gameplay, it was undeniably impressive. Daedalic promises that players can expect to find plenty of scares through Rebels’ eyes, as they try to survive the all-around tense atmosphere on the forsaken isle.
There’s no release date as of yet for The Occultist, but it’s inbound for some time in 2025. Expect it to haunt the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
