A semi-retcon of the original Secret Wars is coming up from Marvel Comics, delving into and revamping the iconic mini-series this fall.

Every modern Marvel Comics fan remembers Secret Wars, right? The crossover event from 2015 wasn’t all that long ago, and brought some of the themes of the 80s original back. But although it used the Beyonders and the Battleworld theme, it was really more of a multiverse redefining event. If you were looking to get that original Secret Wars vibe from it, it probably left you flat.
Well, hold that thought. Marvel revealed at SDCC last weekend, that the original (and some say still the best) Secret Wars is indeed coming back for its 40th anniversary. No, it’s not a sequel, but a story that’ll be wedged between the pages of that classic story. So yes, it’s a retcon, and one that’ll add more characters to the original by way of a tale told from the perspective of Spider-Man and Johnny Storm.
The mysteries of the Secret Wars deepen! Get ready for an all-new cataclysmic battle from when Spider-Man first got his alien costume and a mysterious being called the Beyonder assembled super heroes and villains from Earth to do battle on a patchwork planet. Witness now an untold adventure set during the original Secret Wars!
Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars set the standard for Marvel Comics events (as well as action figures and the characters existing at the forefront of pop culture), and this new story will at last reveal some secret connections and missing characters going back to the original series! Marvel Comics editor-in-chief and the original editor of Secret Wars back in 1984, Tom DeFalco will pen this new tale, along with art from Pat Olliffe. Look for issue #1 (of 4) to hit the stands on November 22nd.
