Trailer: Push forward into the techno-dystopia of “movement shooter” Sprawl

Stick and move, and maybe leap off a few walls while raining pain on your foes from above, in the upcoming FPS Sprawl.

Sprawling out

Inspired by anime classics like Akira and Ghost in the Shell, in addition to real-world phenomena like Kowloon Walled City, SPRAWL takes place in a cyberpunk walled megalopolis known as a breeding ground for illegal activity on the outskirts of the region. After being labeled a scapegoat for the massacre of civilians during a military operation gone wrong, protagonist SEVEN lives in squalor, scarred and dishonored in a dilapidated apartment.

SEVEN may have been framed or set up, but she still pulled the trigger. For that reason alone, she awaits death as atonement for her sins.

Rogue Games press release

As you can tell from the trailer, Seven isn’t exactly waiting around for judgement any more. That’s due to the mysterious figure known as Father, who gives her the heads up that some very bad people are on the way to wipe out all undesirables. And as you can also see, she takes that personally.

Featuring super-fast and acrobatic combat, Sprawl will allow players to make use of everything from katanas to shotguns and cyber-implant powers to destroy The Spire, the enemy’s command and control. Providing the backdrop, will be music from composer and developer, MAETH’s Carlos Lizarraga. That should be a play element all by itself, as the score reportedly responds to in-game action, on the fly.

From the sound of the press release too, Sprawl basically hails from Lizarraga and the “other half” of developer MAETH, Hannah Crawford. And for a two-person production, it’s looking pretty darn great.

Get in on the cyberpunk action when Sprawl releases for the PC next month.
