One of the greatest 16bit era series is back, with an all new Earthworm Jim adventure. It’s also going to be an exclusive for the new Intellivision.
Groooovy
There is a lot to get excited for here, and one thing to maybe not be so happy about. But before we get to that, let’s talk about what’s so good with the return of Earthworm Jim.
For starters, this new EWJ arrives for the game’s 25th anniversary, and will feature the original creative team. That is absolutely huge, since the failure that was EWJ3D did not include them.
I’m not sure if it’s everyone that we’re talking about here though, even though Tommy Tellarico basically says just that. Another part of the press release states there are 10 original team members returning. Still, better than nothing.
And yes, one of those is Tellarico himself, who did the sound on the original EWJ. As it happens, he’s also CEO and President of Intellivision Entertainment.
“We have been talking about this moment for many years, it’s a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together. We’re looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world,” said Tommy Tallarico, Intellivision Entertainment CEO/President and original Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 composer and sound designer. “Intellivision Amico is designed to bring friends and families together and we are excited for fans and those just being introduced to the series to get a first look as we kick-off the design of the game.”

Exclusive
Yep, the new Earthworm Jim game will be exclusive to the Intellivision Amico. That presents a very interesting situation indeed. The Amico hasn’t gotten all that much press, though there are reasons for that. Frankly, there hasn’t been all that much released about the incoming console.
Still, with the addition of EWJ as a marquee game, it forces the issue. And also implies that the new Intellivision is extremely serious about competing in the modern marketplace. EWJ is still a major name after all, even if it’s just in retro-gaming circles. It should be extremely interesting to see what else they may have up their collective sleeve.
In the meantime though, there’s plenty more to come about Jim’s rebirth. To that end, you can check out a live streaming presentation this coming Saturday, May the 4th.
The show will kick off at noon eastern time, and can be viewed via Facebook Live, Twitch TV, or YouTube Live.
