Timesplitters and Second Sight acquired by Koch Media

It’s been a while, but defunct developer Free Radical’s Timesplitters franchise and Second Sight IP have a new home.

Splitting time

If you’re unaware, Timesplitters was a pretty well received and long running FPS franchise. It made it’s name with some solid gameplay primarily, but there was much more to it.

The trilogy had a cool time-bending story and a great sense of humor that often lampooned other pop culture icons. As for Second Sight, that one was much more niche. And it als0 starred a much more serious narrative than TS.

Releasing in 2004, Second Sight centered on a psychic soldier who ran secret missions with a military team. I never got much into Timesplitters, but Second Sight was a great game that I still remember fondly. So with that in mind, I’m thrilled that it’s going to continue on.

Koch Media today announced as much, confirming that they’ve acquired both properties. It doesn’t seem like these’ll be just sitting around either. Actually, it kind of sounds like both will be heading back to their original studio too. Free Radical essentially became Deep Silver Dambuster after all, and that’s a developer that’s already in the Koch family.

“We are hugely excited to have acquired TimeSplitters” commented Klemens Kundratitz, CEO Koch Media GmbH “The original games gave fans a massive content offer and provided a pure and genuinely fun arcade shooter experience. We have many fans of the TimeSplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill todays gaming audience.”

Now, don’t get too excited just yet about the possibilities here. Koch isn’t actually announcing any new projects right now. But there is a very good chance that new games in both series’ are upcoming.

The company left their press release off with a tantalizing tease, saying  that “future TimeSplitters and Second Sight products will be revealed in due course.” So stay tuned.
