Oh boy, Through the Fire and Flames is now available in Guitar Hero Live

You might want to start working out those digits, the finger-straining awesomeness of the Shred-a-Thon playlist is here for Guitar Hero Live.

If you don’t know what Through the Fire and Flames is, well… it’s not easy is what it is. The song has been a blistering play in rhythm games-past and now it’s here for another generation of video gaming metalheads to go mad over. Oh, and its brought friends too. How nice.

“The Guitar Hero community is the lifeblood of the game, so we knew we had to do something huge to bring back one of the most beloved songs of all time,” said Jamie Jackson, Creative Director and Co-Head of FreeStyleGames. “Everyone at the studio has fond memories with Through the Fire and Flames, so we decided to take it up a notch and combine it with the toughest songs in the game hand-picked by us to create the ultimate challenge: a five-day shredder marathon. It’s time to crank it up to expert difficulty and show us what you got!”

Yes the Shred-a-Thon playlist is brand new to GHL and intro’s not only the band Dragonforce’s classic mentioned above, but also:

  • Alter Bridge – Cry of Achilles
  • Megadeth – Hangar 18
  • Lamb of God – Ghost Walking
  • Trivium – Strife

SHREDDING. And here for a limited time too, so if you want to get down on this new content, you better get to it. The playlist will be active from now till February 8th at 7am Pacific Time, however Through the Fire and Flame will stick around after that, most likely just to rub it in that you can’t beat it on the easiest setting the game offers. …well, I can’t at least.

In a nice twist too, you can play any song here in Rival Challenge mode, paired with another gamer online. Head-to-head Dragonforce? Ouch.

And in the spirit of ‘head-to-head’, there’s a contest to talk about here too. Tweet the @GuitarHero Twitter account with a screenshot of your Shred-a-Thon score and you could win some in-and-out-of-game prizes, including “an exclusive marathon Player Card and song play tokens, as well as Gold Guitar Hero Live Controllers, Guitar Hero Live t-shirts and more”.
