SteelSeries announces first wireless controller for new Apple TV

Just announced the other day, the newest Apple TV revision has an eye on gaming as one of it’s touted new features. And with that comes a call for controllers, a call that SteelSeries has just answered.

“SteelSeries is at the center of the biggest evolution in gaming. Nimbus represents a new standard in wireless gaming controllers and we’re pleased to be bringing this controller to this incredible platform,” said Ehtisham Rabbani, SteelSeries CEO. “Our global gaming pedigree, together with our unyielding pursuit of simple, modern design is on full display with Nimbus. We’re thrilled to deliver a truly premium product for the new Apple TV at a great price.”

It’s definitely a bit of a new age of the old Apple TV, with gaming getting a foothold on the set top box for the first time. And while, natively, the new revision of the hardware isn’t quiet what we had in mind here at BG, it’s made all that much better with the Nimbus.

Including the Apple standard lightning connector for charging, the Nimbus pad has the look and feel of a console controller. It even has the pressure-sensitive buttons that you’d expect to see on the big consoles, so this little guy is capable of delivering on the level of control that pretty much anything for a gaming-specific machine can.

You’ll also find a menu button built-into the controller for ease of navigation, and a battery that’s capable of running for 40+ hours, which is pretty impressive.

SteelSeries’ Nimbus is currently scheduled to ship in late October, and will be on Apple.com as well as sold in Apple Stores everywhere. You can snag one for $49.99 USD.
