Indie game Blues and Bullets spreads a little film noire on Xbox One

Continuing the story of Eliot Ness (yes, that Eliot Ness) Blues and Bullets is a gritty, black and white, noire adventure loaded up with action and an unexpectedly creepy plot.

When I think if Eliot Ness, I mainly think go the Untouchables, and Ness’ quest to take down gangster Al Capone. I definitely don’t think of serial killers and twisted slayings so brutal that they could easily find a place in a horror movie. Blues and Bullets from developer A Crowd Of Monsters seems to look to combine the two elements though, in a mix of real life and horror that certainly looks like a winner from that trailer.

Ness finds himself retired and running a diner in the small California city of Santa Esperanza in the narrative. As you can see, he’s pretty quickly pulled into a new case though, and it’s one that isn’t really what he’s used to. There’s also a mysterious group that’s on his tale, and they don’t really appreciate the attention that he’s drawing to their dealings.

A Crowd of Monsters promises shootouts yes, but also plenty of detective work in this one. Gamers will have to “interact with witnesses, suspects and companions”. And more, their decisions will count, and actually factor into the endings of each episode, which will culminate in cliffhangers- just as any good detective tale should.

Episode one of Blues and Bullets is available now exclusively on the Xbox One via ID@Xbox, and will be followed by four more installments.
