If you’re Super Smash Bros player who’s been waiting patiently to learn as much as possible about the upcoming Wii U version of the game, your day has arrived.
Revealed today, Nintendo has outlined some pretty big features for the Wii U edition of Super Smash Bros, including Amiibo connectivity, how it’ll play with the already on the market 3DS version, and more. The Nintendo Direct presentation hit all the high notes and should definitely bring some smile to the faces of the massive fan base the series enjoys.
For starters, the game will offer some bonuses for those who buy both the Wii U and the 3DS versions and register both with Nintendo January 13th. Do that, and you’ll be in for a soundtrack and downloadable fighter in the form of Pokemon’s Mewtwo. You’ll also be able to use your 3DS as a controller with the Wii U version of the game, which adds in yet another way to play, and you’ll be able to import your custom made fighters from the handheld version right off the bat.
In addition to all the cross-platform hijinks, you’ll also be able to build stages from scratch via the Wii U GamePad’s touchscreen. And not only can you make ’em, but you’ll also be able to share them at some point over the web. I would like to have seen that implemented right at launch, but it’s honestly pretty neat they’re doing it at all- this is Nintendo remember?
But there’s a lot more than just that including Amiibo characters who fight along side you, ‘cut down’ versions of some of the fighters landmark games (that are playable!), an unlockable soundtrack that’s hundreds of tracks long, special videos starring the fighters, and Ridley. Yep, Ridley finally joins the fight, not as a playable character, but as a stage-centric partner that’ll actually fight with you against your foes.
All in all, there’s a lot to talk about with this one, so it’s probably best to just hit play on the above video and see for yourself. As for the game, Super Smash Bros lands on the Wii U a little less than a month from now- on November 21st.
